In the 1974 Quarterly of the Colorado School of Mines: Gold Placers of Colorado - Book 1, Dr Ben H. Parker discuses the gulch placers in Summit County. "The gulch placers include the placers on the slopes Farncomb and Humbug Hills...and Gibson Gulch. These were the first-worked placers in the district and have been the most productive. According to reports, "pound-diggings" - where one man could produce a pound of gold in a day by hand methods - were not uncommon in them in the period immediately following their discovery....Gibson Gulch, on the south side of Gibson Hill, contained a small but rich placer deposit."
